MARCH GUEST SPEAKER
Capt. Ralph Steiger, specializing in Lake Michigan Smallmouth Bass Charters, will be our
guest speaker this month. He will be discussing tips and techniques for finding and catching
Smallies on the Big Lake.

 CANADA GOOSE MANAGEMENT
IDNR will be hosting seminars concerning Canada Goose management around the state in
March. If Canada Geese have become a problem on your property consider attending one of
these seminars. They are free and no registration is required. The closest (to us) will be at
the Potato Creek State Park Nature Center on March 23 and at the Lake County Extension
Service Office in Crown Point on March 24. Both run from 9:30 AM ‘til approximately noon.
All interested landowners, managers of corporate campuses, golf course or park employees
and the general public are invited.
For more information call the Urban Wildlife Biologist at (812) 334-1137 or e-mail swinks@dnr.

HUNTER SAFETY EDUCATION CLASS
Lake County Fish and Game will conduct a Hunter Safety Education Class at Cabela’s in
Hammond on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11. The class runs from 9:00 AM ‘til 5:00
PM each day. You must attend both sessions, and pass the test,
in order to receive your certification.
The class is free and open to the public. To register, or for more information,
call Jillian at (219) 845-9071.

POLAR SHOOT
Lake County Fish and Game’s 5th Annual “Polar Shoot” was held Saturday, February 13th at
Deer Creek Hunt Club in Three Oaks, Michigan.  It was cold but fun!! Approximately 37
shooters showed up to brave the elements and break some clays. Top Gun honors went to
John Antczak with a score of 91 which is pretty darn good any day, but exceptional when
you’re dressed like the Michelin Man!!
Cabela’s, in Hammond, donated prizes for the day and Deer Creek put on a great pork loin
lunch. A grand time was had by all. The next shoot is tentatively scheduled for sometime in
August. The location is yet to be determined. Larry Pelcher and Marv Crook have plans to
get the Grand Kankakee Hunt Club in Hanna, IN back up and running so it may be held there.
A little closer to home, but both Grand Kankakee and Deer Creek Hunt Clubs are first class
facilities. More later.

WILD GAME DINNER
For the first time in awhile the Wild Game Dinner is
sold out! Thanks to all of you for your
support. We’ll have a big bash and lots of fun.
Even though there are no more seats available, we are still accepting donations for the
dinner. It’s too late to get in the Game Dinner Program Booklet as a donor, but late donors
will be acknowledged here next month.
Also, if you are bringing something for the hors d’oeuvres table, you should be there
by 3:00 PM, or so. Come in the side (south) door of the hall and we’ll get you set up.
Hope to see you there!!
