| Lake County office, will be our guest speaker this month. NEW GATE UPDATE For those of you who haven’t picked up your new gate card yet, it’s ready and waiting for you. You may pick up your card at any meeting/function or ANY DAY (w/ a few exceptions; call first (219) 756-4220) between 10 AM and noon at the Dawg House Pub in Merrillville. The Pub is located at the NE corner of U. S. 30 and Whitcomb, next to Aladdin Pita. You must pick up your card in person in order to sign for it and a copy of the rules. You may also pick up cards for relatives, friends or coworkers as long as you’re willing to sign for them. This will allow me to dispense cards without having to shirk my responsibilities of making sure the bar is ready to open while running back and forth to the club and having to sit and wait for people to show up or call. It will also accommodate those of you with odd days off. While we’re at it...the new gate to the back is a sliding gate like the one to the front parking lot. The main difference is there is no gate operator (motor) on the new gate. You must slide the gate open and closed manually. The sign next to the card reader says it all…”slide open”. There is a push button inside the gate which is used to exit. LCF&G CLUB GOOSE HUNTING Lake County Fish and Game’s MEMBERS ONLY Waterfowl Lottery Hunts will take place Nov. 5 & Nov. 26. For safety reasons, the grounds will be closed to fishing, and all other activities, on those dates. The winners of the drawing are: Nov. 5th - Joe Quasney, Daryle Lindell, Grant Sears Nov. 26th - Paul Spitz, Rick Mis, Grant Sears CLUB ELECTIONS FOR 2012 The election of officers and Board of Directors for calendar year 2012 will take place at our December meeting (Dec. 7, 2011). Gary Piskula and Don Shurlow are your election committee this year. See either of them to put your name on the ballot; either in an office or on the Board of Directors. We’re always looking for new blood and ideas. If that’s you...step up. The night of the election, prior to the balloting, we will also accept nominations from the floor. YOUTH DOVE HUNT The youth dove hunt, sponsored by Lake County Fish and Game at Willow Slough, was a huge success by all accounts. According to event coordinator, Don Jones, some 140 dove were shot by 23 novice hunters. A great thanks goes out to all who participated... especially the mentors. Without you guys an event like this, introducing our youth the sport of dove hunting, wouldn’t happen. Thank you! GOOD SHOOTING, PEOPLE! YOUTH HUNT @ THE CLUB September 10th was the date of our 2nd youth hunt on the grounds. We had seven kids turn out and five geese and four dove were taken that day. The hunt, open to youth members only, was overseen by experienced, adult members. WILD GAME DINNER 2012 March 24, 2012 is the date. We are in need of game donations for our dinner. While you’re afield this season give us a thought and give Don Jones a call when you have some game to donate. Tickets for the event, which remain $40 each, will go on sale at our December meeting. Letters of introduction, for the purpose of soliciting donations from the businesses you patronize, will be available as well. |
