will be our guest speaker this month. He will be discussing their new
store in Portage and its promotions.
THIS IS THE LAST ISSUE OF “THE HOOSIER SPORTSMAN” ON
2006 DUES
This is the last issue of  “The Hoosier Sportsman” you’ll receive unless your
2007 dues are paid. An asterisk (*) after your name on the mailing label
indicates your 2007 dues have been paid.
It occurred to me (actually it was pointed out to me) that some of you may be
waiting for the annual mailing of raffle tickets with a membership application. I
apologize for not informing you earlier, but we did not have a mailing this year
for two reasons. One, the Lakes Committee Cash Raffle didn’t do as well as
we’d hoped last year and two, the United States Post Office informed us of
the fact that sending raffle tickets through the mail is not legal. Only if they’re
sent with no consideration, or payment due to enter, may the mail be used to
facilitate such a raffle. So those of you looking for that mailing, stop looking
and use the coupon on the back of this newsletter, or come to a meeting and
renew your membership in person. Thank you and I apologize for any
inconvenience this may have caused.
HUNTER SAFETY EDUCATION CLASS
Don Jones has announced the formation of a new Hunter Safety
Education Class. It is to be held on four consecutive Mondays
beginning March 19, 2007 at the LCF&G clubhouse. The class will run
from 6:00 PM till 9:00 PM each night and is free and open to the public.
You must attend all 4 evenings, and pass the test, in order to receive
your certification. Call Don at (219) 844-2758 to register.
ICE FISHING
Ice fishing for members will be allowed in Lake #1 behind the clubhouse
only! The same rules apply as in the summer; you may fish during the
day only and must practice catch and release.
WE’RE ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB!
Mike Echterling, has our new website up and running! It’s a work in
progress, but Mike has really done a good job in a short period of time.
There is much to peruse on this site. There are links to other
organizations, legislation alerts, state and federal lawmakers and
agencies, as well as club history, pictures and stuff. You can visit us,
opt for an online version of The Hoosier Sportsman and offer your
comments at:
www.lakecountyfishandgame.org.
Thank You, Mike, for the GOOD WORK!!
ARCHERY LEAGUE ANYONE?
Lake County Fish and Game is considering scheduling a casual archery
league for spring and summer 2007 at our new archery range. These will
probably take place once every one or two weeks. All scores will be
handicapped. It would be a good way for archery minded club members
to meet.
Archery Chairman, Ken Zimny is seeking input to determine how many
people would be interested in participating. He would like input on what
day of the week would work best for most people, what month to start
and any other constructive comments.
Our initial thought is to hold them prior to the general membership
meetings. Please e-mail him at ken@zimny.com or call him at (708)
757-9080 to comment and have your name put on a notification list. The
cost for participating will be minimal or nothing
.
WILD GAME DINNER 2007
March 3rd will be here before you know it. Ticket sales are not as
brisk as we’d like and donations have been slow.
Ticket chairman, Don Jones, has been working hard, under the tutelage
of Terry Paris,
to get tickets out there. We’re OK, but could be better. If you know of
anybody who
may be interested in attending please let them know. We need to put
butts in seats.
The cost is $40 which includes appetizers, a sit-down family style meal
and open bar.
There also are raffles, tip boards and a live auction.
As for donations, a letter of introduction is available for you to use in
soliciting
businesses you may patronize. We can use items to tip (bottles work
well), auction
items (a print at home in the closet perhaps) or just a door prize item.
Please bring
whatever donations you can to this month’s meeting. We’ll put them to
good use.
Tom Bukowski is in charge of the hors d’oevres table this year. Call him
with whatever
you’d like to contribute. We can use some waterfowl to smoke.
Whatever  you can
contribute will be appreciated. Thank you for your support!
Adult Membership - $40.00 annually
Children 16 and Under - $10.00 annually.
A plastic gate/door entry card is $10.00,
as a one-time payment, provided your membership is
renewed by December 31st.  Lost cards are $10.00.
Come and join us at the next meeting!
Calling for content:  If you members have anything
