OCTOBER GUEST SPEAKER
Mr. Howard “Capt. Ski” Petroski will be our guest speaker this month.
He will be discussing Lake Michigan fishing tips and
techniques. He’s a good, knowledgeable speaker, come out and
give him a listen.

NIGHT FISHING OUTING
The Lakes Committee is planning another night fishing outing for
October 4th from 6:00 PM ‘til 10:00 PMish.
There will be hot dogs on the grill, a bonfire and beverages will be
available.  Come out and enjoy some of the fine fishing afforded you
as a member of Lake County Fish and Game. Have a dog and maybe
make a new friend, or two.
We might even get Don to out his guitar by the fire. BIG FUN!!

CLUB ELECTIONS
Club elections for officers and board members for the 2009 calendar
year will be held at our December meeting. (Dec. 3).
Tim and Dave Kandalac will handle the election committee chores this
year. To put your name on the ballot for a particular office, or as a
member of the board, please contact either Tim or Dave. We’re always
looking for “new blood”. So if you’re feelin’ froggy...leap!

ANOTHER DUCK HUNTING SEASON OPENS!!
October 18, 2008 opens a new waterfowl hunting season in the
north zone of Indiana. Remember to HIP register before hunting
waterfowl. You can do this by phone at (866) 671-4499 or over the
Internet at www.wildlife.in.gov.
Deer and Fall Wild Turkey seasons also open this month!

KEYCARD FEES GOING UP
The Board of Directors, at their September meeting, have approved
an increase in the cost of keycards in the future. Dues will remain the
same at $40 annually for adults, and $10 annually for youths 16 and
younger.  Next year the cost of a keycard (as well as the cost to
replace a lost or damaged card) will be increased to $25.
What that means for all you current members with keycards is that
you want to make sure you keep your membership current (renewed
on time) because if you allow your membership to lapse your keycard
will now cost you $25 to renew. Renew  your membership on time and
your keycard still costs you nothing but the original $10 ($5 for some
of you) fee you paid. It also means that for those members who may
have thought of applying for a keycard, now is the time before the
fee increase takes affect.  This increase was put into place for the
simple fact that the list of amenities afforded our members is growing.
We’ll have a gate shortly that will be opened by the aforementioned
keycard. Our Back Lake, consisting of approximately 18 acres of water,
will be open to fishing next year. And the keycard system itself will
have to be upgraded sometime in the future. The system we have,
donated as it has been, is no longer supported by the manufacturer
and parts are no longer available. We have a commitment from a l
ocal supplier, who shall remain nameless for the time being, to
donate some hardware and software while selling us other hardware
items at their cost. This is down the road, not too far down the road
but down the road nonetheless. The beauty is those of you with
current keycards will be grandfathered into the new system, and
receive new credentials based on the type of technology used, while
new members, and those who procrastinated, will be paying the
increased fee. Renew/save!
